SPRINGFIELD, IL… State Representative Wayne Rosenthal (R-Morrisonville) backs legislation that requires the Secretary of Transportation to form the Zero Traffic Fatalities Task Force aimed at reducing traffic fatalities to zero across the state.
The Task Force shall include, but is not limited to, representatives from the Illinois State Police, State-supported institutions of higher learning, the Department of Transportation, the Department of Public Health, local governments, bicycle safety organizations, statewide motorist service membership organizations, transportation advocacy organizations, and labor organizations.
“I’m extremely happy to sponsor HB2131 and provide my support to all members of the Zero Traffic Fatalities Task Force,” said Rep. Rosenthal. “This commitment to reduce traffic fatalities across our communities, is what makes Illinois a leader in addressing public safety.”
Effective upon becoming law, the Secretary of Transportation shall submit a detailed report that includes the following issues: process for establishing speed limits, include existing policies on how to reduce speed limits on local streets, and increasing safety measures for vehicles, pedestrians, and bicyclists. HB2131 passed unanimously out of the General Assembly and is awaiting the Governor’s signature to become law.
