This increase stemmed from a 2007 Illinois law that requires farmland and timberland to be taxed at the same rate of homes.

Montgomery County Board Chairman Doug Donaldson announced property taxes hikes stemming from the 2007 law will not go into effect and that an ad hoc committee will explore the issue. Read more about the shocking news here.
