Rep. Rosenthal Issues Statement after House Rules Adopted for 104th General Assembly
Springfield, IL…Last week, the Illinois House of Representatives voted on Rules for the 104th General Assembly. There was opportunity to start this year off focused on good government and transparency, but Republicans were shut out once again. State Representative Wayne Rosenthal (R-Morrisonville) issued the following statement:
“The House of Representatives had an opportunity to return representative democracy to the people of Illinois, but that failed to happen, and the status quo will remain in place with the House Rules for the 104th General Assembly,” said Rep. Rosenthal. “The majority party continues to conduct business in a way that ultimately has a negative effect on residents in our state. People deserve to be represented by an honest government that works through transparency and truth.”
Despite fair recommendations proposed by House Republicans, the majority party voted to keep Madigan era Rules in place. Unfortunately, those on the other side of the aisle continue to abuse the legislative process such as budget passing in the dead of night without public knowledge or input. Illinois residents deserve better, and House Republicans will continue to advocate for economic growth, no new taxes, and eliminate wasteful spending.
