SPRINGFIELD, IL… State Representative Wayne Rosenthal (R-Morrisonville) honored the life of Litchfield native, Meghan Lynn Harmon of Divernon, on Wednesday at the Illinois Capitol with House Resolution 97. The wife of local reporter and radio show host, Greg Bishop, Meghan Harmon was a library program specialist at the Illinois State Library.
“How do you properly recognize and honor all of the positive things Megan has done over 41 years of life helping people access a wealth of information from their local and state libraries,” commented Rep. Wayne Rosenthal. “Her great work as the reference librarian at the Abraham Presidential Library and Museum earned her the nickname ‘Megstar’ which is very fitting for Meghan.”
Born in Springfield to Robert Joseph and Beth (Hermsmeyer) Harmon in 1983, Rep. Rosenthal’s resolution notes that Megan graduated from Litchfield High School in 2002 and went on to earn several degrees, including an Associate Degree in Secondary Education from Lincoln Land Community College, a Bachelor of Arts and Master of Arts in English from the University of Illinois Springfield, and a Master of Science in Library and Information Science for the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign.
Meghan Harmon was an adjunct professor at Lincoln Land Community College, teaching English and humanities and then was the local history and genealogy reference librarian at the Chatham Area Public Library District before taking the position of reference librarian at the Abrahm Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum.
With a passion for books, Meghan Harmon conducted professional presentations about rare manuscripts and how to access them and she volunteered with the Friends of the Chatham Area Public Library and performed in their murder mystery fundraisers. Meghan was a member of the International College Honor Society Phi Theta Kappa and enjoyed traveling with her husband Greg to national parks, the Alaska wilderness and Iceland, as well as exploring caves.

“On behalf of the Illinois House of Representatives, I send my sincere condolences to Meghan’s husband Greg and all of your family, friends, colleagues, and all who knew and loved her,” added Rosenthal.
