SPRINGFIELD, IL – OnTuesday, State Representative Wayne Rosenthal (R-Morrisonville) passed House Resolution 313 to congratulate Brigadier General John “Marty” Green on his retirement as Air National Guard Assistant to the Air Force Deputy Judge Advocate General (DJAG), Washington, D.C.

Rep. Rosenthal, also a retired Air Force General, spoke highly of Brigadier General Green, saying, “not only has General Marty Green distinguished himself in his nearly three decades of military service to our country, but he is admitted to practice law before the Illinois Supreme Court, the U.S. Court of Appeals and the U.S. District Court for the Central District of Illinois. In his civilian life, he served a Governor, two Illinois Attorneys General, and a Secretary of State and has served as Senior Vice President and Legal Counsel for the Illinois CPA Society.”

Brig. Gen. Green served as the primary advisor to DJAG on Air National Guard legal matters relating to the 90 Air National Guard Wings’ operational support of the federal mission of the Air Force and the performance of Title 32 and state active duty. As judge advocate to the Commander of Task Force Pelican during Hurricane Katrina and as senior Title 32 legal advisor to the Dual Status Commander for NATO Summit in Chicago, he assisted the Secret Service and Department of State with logistics, protocol and security. Green has traveled to Poland four times to teach U.S. military Justice and operational law issues.
Brig. Gen. Green received numerous awards and decorations, including the Legion of Merit, the Meritorious Service Medal with two Oak Leaf Clusters, the Air and Space Achievement Medal, the Army Achievement Medal, the Air and Space Organizational Excellence Award, the National Defense Service Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, the Humanitarian Service Award, the Illinois Lincoln Medal of Freedom, and the Louisiana Emergency Service Medal.
A graduate of Western Illinois University (WIU) with a bachelor’s degree in Political Science with a minor in Public Administration, and a graduate of Saint Louis University Law School, Brig. Gen. Green was selected for a White House internship. He served in the administration of President Ronald Reagan and assisted the Press Secretary for Vice President George H.W. Bush.
Brig. Gen. Green has served as the president of the WIU Alumni Council, teaching Homeland Security courses as an adjunct instructor. He was honored with the Alumni Achievement Award and has served as a member of the Law Enforcement and Justice Administration Advisory Board.
His studies also include the Air War College at Maxwell AFB, the Executive Joint Domestic Operations Course, Joint Task Force Commander Training Course, and Dual Status Commander Course at Peterson AFB, and the Senior Leader Orientation Course at Joint Base Andrews.
“General Green’s career has always been centered in public service,” added Rosenthal. “He has given to his country and community his entire life and we wish him well in his retirement.”
