SPRINGFIELD, IL – State Representative Wayne Rosenthal (R-Morrisonville) released the following statement following Governor JB Pritzker’s signing of the Fiscal Year 2026 budget:
“Governor Pritzker’s decision to sign a $55.2 billion budget today reflects priorities that I believe are out of step with the needs of many Illinois families. I remain concerned about the growing level of spending, particularly the significant resources being directed toward programs for non-citizens.
“At the same time, local governments are being put in a difficult position. With state spending up and reserves being stretched, communities may be forced to consider local tax increases just to maintain basic services. That’s not fair to taxpayers who are already feeling the pinch.
“We need a more balanced approach. One that supports core services, respects taxpayer dollars, and ensures long-term fiscal stability for Illinois. I will continue to advocate for responsible budgeting that reflects the values and priorities of the people I represent.”
