Protecting our Second Amendment
The Protect Illinois Communities Act is controversial and many law-abiding firearm owners believe it infringes on their Second Amendment right to keep and bear arms, stated in the U.S. Constitution. I attended the Illinois State Police Committee Meeting about the Firearm Ban and one thing is certain and that is there are many unanswered questions that pertain to this law and constituents want to know if they are considered a criminal.
I fully support the Second Amendment and I believe individuals who own specific firearms to protect their family or simply to hunt, should not be threatened with fines or jail time for exercising their Constitutional rights. It’s one thing to enforce safety measures to keep communities safe, but I don’t see how this law improves public safety. Supporting our Second Amendment is a fight that never ends, and the people of Illinois will stand in solidarity to remain lawful firearm owners because they have that right.
What I don’t support is government overreach, unconstitutional bans, and permitting laws that limit your right to self-protection.
As Americans, we are fortunate to have a Constitution that protects our fundamental freedoms. The Second Amendment is a crucial part of this, ensuring our right to keep and bear arms. The right is not just about hunting or sports; it’s about our ability to protect ourselves, our families, and our communities.
